"We do not simply offer boxes, but individual, combined solutions"

On the German market, there is a clear trend towards more sustainable solutions in the packaging sector. While reduced amounts of plastic and alternatives made of paper and cardboard are the forerunners in primary packaging, when talking about secondary packaging and transport, the spotlight is on plastic. All in the name of sustainability and hygiene. Belgian company Gamma-Wopla was present once again at this year's Fruit Logistica, where it presented the latest developments in the field of secondary packaging.

Gamma-Wopla's representatives at the fair: Michaël Cibois, Aleksandar Petrovic and Michael Do provided information at the stand.

"Our crates are stackable and either foldable or nestable. In this way we want to reduce costs and emissions for (return) transport and storage," explained Michaël Cibois, the company's Sales Manager during a discussion at Fruit Logistica, last week in Berlin. "Thanks to the colour coding, the various functions are easy to recognise and the goods are not damaged." Michaël Cibois presented the new solutions.

The company's latest product, the GEBI-6426 Bi-Color turntable container, is a custom-made product for a French company. Because of its particular construction, the boxes can be nested inside each other, which means they will save up to 80% of space during empty/return transport. "This product will go into full production in March, with a first edition of 80,000 crates. Special features are the space-saving stacking, but also the floor, which has been specially reinforced for heavy products. Some prototypes are already in use to test and tune its use in certain mechanical processes."

The company wants to offer complete solutions and puts together sets of different components: "Together with our sister company, we supply pallets, boxes and also lids for the boxes. With this complete solution, transport is safer, pallets can be stacked and the goods are perfectly protected." These combined solutions with a modular structure are specially adapted to the customer's requirements, the company is quick to assure. Complete solution: Pallets, crates and lids, all from Gamma-Wopla / Smart-Flow

Another new product from the company are the foldable crates, including the P-6422 from Gamma-Wopla, as an extension of the foldable P-range. "There are two versions of these, one for lighter goods such as salads. The other for heavier goods, like apples, has a reinforced base." Here, too, the customers' wishes are always taken into account: "For example, we deliver these foldable crates to a Swiss customer who transports bottles with liquids in them. To prevent leakage, we have moved the hinges further up. We always work closely together with our customers and thus do not simply offer crates, but individual, combined solutions."

Made to customer requirements: Denner crate with raised hinges to prevent leakage of fluids.
