Getting ready to ship pallets can be nerve-wracking when you’re unsure of your packing job. Stopping mistakes in your packing before sending a shipment through the door makes for a better manufacturing practice. This is true whether you transport goods within Arizona or farther away. We hope you can implement these tips and tricks for properly packing pallets into your business for a smoother shipping process.

A slip sheet is a thin piece of cardboard that you spread across the wooden pallet before stacking boxes on it. The purpose of the slip sheet is to support the bottom of the load. Wooden pallets have gaps in between each panel, making for less stability.

To ensure the best protection for your shipments, purchase high-quality packing materials. This goes for the pallets, boxes, packing stuffers, and shrink wrap. Using a slightly more expensive material will give you fewer hiccups down the road when the pallet needs to go to the client.

You can’t place boxes on the pallet in a miscellaneous fashion. Keep a keen eye on placement because weight distribution plays a significant factor when loading and unloading pallets with boxes already on them. Put the heavier boxes on the bottom for stability and the lighter ones on top so that they don’t crush the bottom boxes.

When placing the boxes on the pallet, you should avoid putting on any boxes that overhang off the edge. This can ruin the pallet’s stability and make the load susceptible to damage or loss of products in transport. Corner bends are a great material to add to the outer edges of the boxes to keep them all held together.

The last step is to use shrink wrap. This is the most important one for keeping the load together and protecting it from the outside environment. Use industrial shrink wrap to secure the boxes together. It’ll also stop the boxes from falling off the pallet. Learn the difference between shrink wrap and plastic wrap to determine which material is the best for you.

Follow these tips and tricks for properly packing pallets, and you’ll have a smooth and steady routine for all future shipments. Depending on the company, you can find what works best for you and what gets the product to the client safely.
