LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has over 380 characters to unlock, including DLC packs, and they're divided up into 10 different categories.

There are over 380 characters to unlock in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and each one belongs to a specific category. Some characters are part of DLC packs, like the Rogue One and Mandalorian character packs, but most of them can be unlocked in the main game. A lot of characters will be unlocked automatically while playing through the story. However, characters that are unlocked may still need to be purchased with Studs before they can be used in Free Play.

Each level has a set of characters that can't be switched while playing in Story Mode. Many of the story characters in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be unlocked as soon as players complete a mission with them. Any character that's not available after completing the story missions will need to be unlocked by completing side missions, collections, and puzzles, or entering cheat codes.

There are large hub areas to unlock in Story Mode, and each one has a variety of activities to complete for varying rewards. Most of the locations across the galaxy will have at least one character to unlock, and many have more than that. Unlocking every character is very time-consuming, but it's also fun to learn what each new character can do and how they move differently from others. Including DLC and cheat code character unlocks, there are over 400 characters to use in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Jedi characters are able to use the Force to push, throw, and lift objects and enemies. Characters in the Jedi class can also use Mind Tricks to distract and influence others or cause them to panic. The Jedi have the same abilities as characters in the Dark Side category, but their class upgrades make them different. The Jedi upgrades allow players to increase the effectiveness of Mind Tricks and boost damage against other characters in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Every character in the Hero class can use a Grapple Blaster to reach climbing points or pull down orange hooks. Heroes usually have ranged weapons, although there are some, like versions of Rey or Finn, that use lightsabers in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Hero characters can also wear disguises to sneak past enemies or gain access to new areas. In order to access Hero Terminals, a character in this class will need to be unlocked.

There are only a few characters in the Scavenger category, but they are needed for a lot of puzzles across the galaxy. Scavengers are able to build a Breaker Blaster, Net Launcher, or Glider to interact with the environment. Scavengers can also wall run and use twirl poles to reach new areas. The Scavenger class upgrades in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga increase the effectiveness of their tools and boost climbing speed.

Scoundrels, like Han Solo and Chewbacca, have unique ranged weapons and are able to discover structural weaknesses. Identifying weak points can open doors or reveal unique death traps for groups of enemies. Scoundrels are also the only characters in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga that can accept Smuggling Run Missions and Smuggling Run Ambushes, some of which unlock other characters.

Bounty Hunters can be used to destroy gold blocks, and they also have the ability to grapple like Hero characters in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Upgrading the Bounty Hunter character class will unlock the ability to throw shock grenades, detect enemies through walls, and earn extra Studs in combat. Additionally, Bounty Missions can only be completed by characters in the Bounty Hunter class. Having a Bounty Hunter in the party, especially while flying around in space, will make it easier to accept every available mission.

The Villain character class in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has characters that have the ability to throw grenades without having to pick them up first. Villains are also able to access special weapons crates that contain unique guns like flamethrowers. Villain Terminals need to be accessed by these characters and can be bypassed once the skill is upgraded. There are a few other upgrades that can be purchased to increase the damage done by Villains.

The Dark Side characters have all the same base abilities as any character in the Jedi class. Dark Side characters are able to use the Force on opponents or the environment, and they have the same Mind Tricks available. The upgrades available for this class include increases in Force capabilities and the ability to cause citizens to run in terror from any Dark Side character in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Skills can be deactivated, so players don't need to worry about the Fear the Dark Side ability hindering progress by making NPCs flee.

Astromech Droids are used to interact with the environment. These droids are able to sneak by enemies without raising suspicion, and they can interact with Astromech Terminals to unlock new areas. Astromech Droids will be needed throughout the story as well as while exploring hub areas in Free Play to uncover every secret in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Like the Astromech Droids, Protocol Droids are able to sneak by enemies because they are not considered a threat. The Protocol Droids have their own terminals to access, and interacting with them will usually allow players to retrieve a password, use a turret, control a droid, or set off an alarm. Protocol Droids are also able to disassemble and fit into small spaces, which is necessary for a large number of puzzles throughout the galaxy in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Extras are characters that can be unlocked in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, but they don't belong to a specific class. These characters won't share any special abilities, but there are still a few unique features to discover with them. For example, the Wampa and the Rancor can break objects just by running through them. Although characters in this category don't have class skills, they will still be affected by any core upgrades that are unlocked.

The DLC character packs can be purchased separately for $2.99 each. However, players can also purchase the Character Collection, which includes the seven announced character packs, for $14.99. Unlike most of the other unlockables in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, the DLC characters don't need to be purchased with Studs. Instead, characters included in a DLC pack will be automatically unlocked the day the content is released.
