The Peruvian grower Beta will commercialise its blueberries through its new sales office in Europe this season. The grower’s premium grade Ventura in clamshell format will be available for purchase by the pallet for distribution across Europe by Beta Best Produce.

The office was set up earlier this year to start marketing the company’s produce to parts of the European market that it is not currently reaching efficiently. There will be a special focus on Eastern Europe, where the Beta brand has a good following.

Beta is one of the largest and most established growers and exporters of fresh produce in South America. It farms 5,500has of crops ranging from asparagus, avocados, grapes, pomegranates, citrus and of course blueberries. This season it will produce approximately 20 million kg of blueberries and the quality of the crop is set to be outstanding.

“Harvesting started a few weeks ago and the pressures and sizing are as good as we’ve ever seen. The key to great shelf life on arrival has to do with how the fruit is picked and more importantly the timing. As one of the largest employers in agriculture in Peru, we have a stable year-round workforce that helps us ensure that fruit from every single plant is harvested at the optimum moment. We see the positive effects of this when the fruit arrives in Europe," says Mike Soulsby, Beta Best’s managing director. There will be availability of the 125g clamshell fruit from the end of September (week 39) with weekly arrivals through to the end of the year. Interested buyers should use the below contact to order by the pallet.
